History

The right-facing fist was added to the Unicode standard in 2015 as part of Emoji 1.0. The ability to modify these hand gestures with different skin tones was introduced simultaneously, based on the Fitzpatrick scale, to allow for better representation of real-world human diversity in digital messaging.
