Thumbs down: light skin tone

Thumbs down: light skin tone Emoji

People

A hand showing a thumb pointing straight down, rendered with a light skin tone. It features a clenched fist with the thumb extended downward in a classic gesture of disapproval.

Usage Context

Used to express negative feedback, rejection, or lack of enthusiasm for a topic. While it is the direct opposite of ๐Ÿ‘, it is often used in comment sections and review systems to signal that content is poor or that the user disagrees with a post. Its meaning remains consistent across most digital platforms as a quick way to cast a vote against something.

History

The thumbs down gesture traces its roots back to ancient Roman gladiatorial games, where it was famously used to decide the fate of a defeated fighter. As an emoji, it was added to the Unicode standard to provide a universal way to offer negative feedback in text-based communication, eventually gaining skin tone modifiers in 2016 to better represent diverse users.
