Usage Context

Used to denote contact management, networking, or the act of keeping organized records. It is the digital equivalent of flipping through a physical address book and is frequently used alongside 📱 or 📧 to signal that someone is updating their contact list.

History

Included in Unicode 6.0 in 2010, the icon pays homage to the physical card-filing systems that dominated office desks throughout the late 20th century before being rendered obsolete by the rise of digital databases and smartphone contacts.
