Regional indicator symbol letter h Emoji
Flags
A square block featuring the capital letter H, designed with a distinct font style that separates it from standard alphabetical text. It serves as one half of a pair used to render national flag emojis on digital screens.
Usage Context
This character is almost exclusively used by mobile operating systems to construct flag icons. When placed next to another regional indicator, like 🇮, the system automatically combines them to render the flag of the corresponding country, such as the flag of Hungary. Using it outside of these pairs just results in a standalone letter block.
History
These characters were added to the Unicode standard in 2010 to allow platforms to support flags without creating individual images for every territory in the world. By using regional indicator pairs, developers could trigger flag rendering dynamically through existing text-encoding systems.
