History

While the basic clapping hands emoji debuted in Unicode 6.0 in 2010, the ability to modify skin tones was added in 2015 with Unicode 8.0. This update allowed users to better represent their identity by selecting from a range of skin tone modifiers based on the Fitzpatrick scale.
